The Methods
Once I realized that my thoughts controlled my life, I also realized that the next important step was taking control of my thoughts. As the first step, try an interesting exercise I call a “mental download.” For a period of four or five days, write down everything you think about. As best you can, keep a running list of all the thoughts that cross your mind during the day.ÂBy the time you are finished, it should amount to a whole laundry list of subjects and a good inventory of the thoughts that are controlling your life.
The next step is to go back and take a critical look at what you have written. The question you must now ask yourself is: “Are my thoughts taking me where I believe God wants me to go?” If you conclude they are not, it is time to get your thinking on the right track. Set aside your “mental download” list and make a new list of the kind of thoughts that will support where you believe God wants you to go with your life; for example, thoughts about the ways you can increase your skills and capabilities.
