Keeping your website fresh and relevant doesn’t have to end with the words you put on the page.  The User Folder is a powerful tool for keeping your “static” images as current as your News page.

Swapping out your images couldn’t be much easier than this tool makes it.  For the most part, all you need is an idea about the image you want to use and a tool to make some simple modifications.  For example, if the main graphic on your homepage doesn’t really showcase the charitable nature of your community, you can use the pictures from last Saturday on your homepage.

• Once you have your image, you need to make sure that it matches the dimensions for the image you wish to replace.
• Often, images from digital cameras are much larger than anything that would be used online – and need to be scaled down.  This involves resizing your image to match the dimensions of the area for which it is destined.  Websites like snipshot.com make this process very straightforward.  Please note that if you do not resize your image to the proper dimensions prior to uploading it, your image will not display correctly.
• After your image has been resized, you will need to make sure that your image is given the correct name.  Think of this as the Freaky Friday part of the process – it doesn’t matter what is contained within the image, just that it appears to be who it says it is.  For example, if the image you wish to replace is named “pic1.jpg”, the image you want to use should also be named “pic1.jpg”.
• Making sure your image has the right name should be as simple as right-clicking on the image you wish to replace and viewing the Properties.  In the image properties, you should see the name of the image – your image must match this name exactly.  If you have doubts about what your images should be named, your account manager will be happy to help you find out.
• The last step in the process is uploading the image to your image library.  Simply press “Add”, then in the new window, browse for your image and choose upload.  Your website is programmed to load images based on their names, and by uploading a new image with the same name as the one you wish to replace, you have given the website all that it needs to swap out that homepage graphic.
