God Meets Us Where We Are

General

I was recently discussing a current local news story with a couple of my coworkers. The brief of the story is that a local man was fired from his job, and in retaliation, he decided to murder the manager who had fired him. The man escaped the scene before the police arrived. The surrounding roads were immediately closed off as the police began searching the thousand-acre area. Four days later, the suspect has still not been found, and the search has spread over other areas of Austin.

Police probably aren’t searching for me, or at least I hope not; but I, like the suspect, am trying to run and escape the consequences of my actions nearly on a daily basis. I’m not trying to hide in the wooded and secluded areas of the city, but I hide in the busy-ness of everyday life and the constant desire to become self-reliant. Thankfully, God doesn’t have to use spot lights or a herd of dogs to track me down. He knows where I’m at and meets me there without condition. Instead of prison or criminal punishment, he wraps his arms around me and continues to point me in the right direction.

Next time someone wrongs me maybe I should have more love and compassion and not seek retaliation. After all, a thousand-acre piece of land isn’t going to prevent God from tracking me down.
