I find it funny how many times in life we’re only able to learn lessons once we’ve experienced something first-hand. I say that because many times we, as human beings, do not always get things right the first time, but by the grace of God, we receive opportunity upon opportunity to turn it around!
I think that’s why I enjoy seeing the transformation that occurs during the process of a redesign. To see a client’s site go from one vision to another reminds me of the verse in Psalm 84:7 that says we go from “strength to strength” throughout the course of life and “one by one each appear before God in Zion.” Many times I find that this is the ultimate driving force that nudges a pastor into a redesign… to continue moving forward – in the strength of God’s power – in that hope of not only bringing ourselves closer to God but bringing Him glory every step of the way.
A site that reminds me of such mentality is a recent redesign that just came out of production, Open Door Baptist Church out if Belmont, Massachusetts .
- This client wanted to reflect on their site exactly what their church name stated – an open door.
- For being a smaller church, they had a great understanding of the need in their community and how a “refreshed” website was going to help achieve that.
- Learning from the website they managed previously and having witnessed all the advances in web technology of the present, they understood that it was essential to have all elements accounted for this time around.
- Things like site interactivity, accessible media, eye-catching graphics, ease of navigation and well-presented content were only going to further the ability of visitors and guests to more easily ingest the truth that lie within the pages of their site.

This redesign was a success not only because of all the things that were added to the site, but because of what it managed to retain while undergoing such changes… and that’s the message. At the end of the day what mattered most to Pastor Bob Butler and his staff was that people were drawn in to the truth; that people understood Christ apart from everything else. An aim, I think, we all, here at faithHighway, hope to further along in every way that we can.
With every advance we make as a body of believers from “strength to strength” I believe that one by one we will see our generation come closer to appearing before God in Zion.
