Time to Breathe

General

Breathe! Sometimes I have to sit back and tell myself to breathe. Not because I’ve just finished the Iron Man Triathlon (oh how I wish!!!) , but because I’ve being going and going and going (like the energizer bunny) and need to stop.

I am very (emphasis on very) competitive and love challenges. However, it’s easy for me to get caught up in achieving work place challenges or personal challenges and forget about being spiritually challenged.

As Proverbs 27:17 says: As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.

The older I get the more I realize how important this little proverb is. I had a great talk with some girlfriends the other day about being real with each other. I get so busy and caught up in doing things that my relationships with others tend to slack. I will be honest and admit that I sometimes to hide in my busyness to avoid being challenged by my relationships. It’s scary to be real and scary to put yourself out there. However, I always end up growing as a person as well as spiritually when I do make an effort to maintain relationships with those around me and let them sharpen me. Hopefully, somehow in my crazy life, I am sharpening them too.

So, take a few moments this week to just breathe and reflect on what your busyness is hiding you from. Turn the computer off (yes, stop reading this), turn the cell phone on silent, close your eyes and breathe.
