He hangs up his blackberry from his conference call regarding financial reports just in time to run to his next meeting with the designers and programmers. Managing time and people is something Chris Mallonee has learned to do very well.
Chris has two roles at faithHighway. He is the comptroller and production manager. He has the responsibility of managing the cash flow and reporting on financials as well as scheduling work orders for the designers and programmers in both Austin and Ukraine.
“I’ve learned that I have to segment my day, so I make sure I get things done. For example, I have specific times that I answer phone calls and emails,” Chris says. “I also prioritize the top six things that I need to accomplish in a day and make sure those things get done.”
While his job is sometimes stressful and learning to respond to multiple urgent requests at the same time is challenging, Chris says that his favorite part about working at faithHighway is the people he gets to work with.
He laughed as he told a story of burning popcorn in the office kitchen just after he started working at faithHighway a little over three and a half years ago.
“All the fire alarms went off and the employees hid under their desks because they thought it was a real fire. The firemen came, and it was really embarrassing that it was just burned popcorn.”
While he may still not have mastered the art of making popcorn, he is a talented worship leader. He moved to Austin to help with a church plant from his home church in Springfield, Missouri. He leads worship and also does the financials for Southwest Family Fellowship. Soon after moving to Austin, he found faithHighway and has been working here since.
Chris received his accounting degree from Southwestern Assembly of God University in Waxahachie, Texas, where he also played basketball. His love for basketball didn’t end there, as he now referees for junior high school basketball games in his free time.
The words “free time” have little meaning to Chris right now, as when he does have free time he is planning his wedding with his beautiful finance. His face lights up when he talks about her.
“One of my favorite things about her is the way she makes me laugh.”
Chris is very goal oriented and one of his goals, outside of work, for this coming year is to beat his younger brother in a reading contest by seeing who can read the most books.
“It has to be ‘fun’ reading and can’t be school related. We’re hoping it keeps our minds fresh.”
One verse that Chris is learning to live by and wants to encourage others with is Micah 6:8: “He has showed you, oh man, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly, and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”
“If we abide by this verse, then we’ll honor God and others the way we’re supposed to.”
