Support Tech Support!

We know it’s pretty much normal that we only notice the tech people when things are bad. In fact, you may not even talk to them unless you need something or something is broke. And having worked with a bunch of tech guys and having done tech work, it is a pretty thankless job at times. Think for a moment. What would your life be without email? Internet? Audio? Lighting? Power? You could get along. You could manage. But your ability to communicate and progress would be greatly hindered.

So what’s the point? Here is a ticket item for you to get done for the people around you that help with lights, video, audio, computers, telephones, etc.

  1. Appreciate them. Buy them dinner or get them a gift card. In some way or another, find ways to appreciate them, especially when things are working great
  2. Pray for them. Their problems are complex. They are normally wired analytically and systematically. And they have no choice but to solve the problems you present. So how about giving them some support in prayer. You don’t know how to fix some of the problems. But God has wisdom and knowledge that you can ask Him to drop on your tech person or team.
  3. Listen to them. I know it seems like technology is a financial black hole. But if you areĀ  wanting something and you ask them to help you solve the problem or create a solution, just know they are only delivering to you what you wanted and they are not trying to blow up your budget because they want some neat toys. They are trying to deliver and they want to do it right. Listening to them beyond numbers will help them know you value their opinion.
  4. Stay informed with them. Tech people love to keep up with new technology. And often times they are extremely busy. And that can frustrate them in the pursuit of learning new things. Go with them to the mac store. Go with them to Frye’s. Help them stay current. Send them to a class they want to go to.

I think if you can get all these items done on a somewhat regular basis, you will find that they appreciate the extra time and care and it will actually help them and you do ministry in a powerful way together.
