Writing Better Tweets

Best Practices

If you’re an avid tweeter, then here are some tips on how to write better tweets from an article I read on ComputerWorld.com

140 characters isn’t much. In fact, it’s very few words and sometimes difficult to put a complete thought in 140 characters or less.

Tip #1: Avoid abbreviations. Don’t assume that people will know what you’re abbreviating.

Tip #2:
Try to use proper punctuation and capitalization. In other words, avoid sloppy tweets.

Tip #3: Sit on a tweet before just posting it…much like you would proofread an email. People will appreciate a thoughtful tweet.

Tip #4: When tweeting a link, make sure you have a creative headline, so people will click your link.  Keep it compact and simple. Make it humorous or topical.

Tip #5: Use Twitter applications to help you track the status of your tweets. Apps like TweetDeck and bit.ly’s can help you track how your link/tweet is performing in the cyber world.

Any other tips you would like to share?
