THE PICTURE OF THE ANOINTING
During the baptism of Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit descended in bodily form like a dove upon Him. The “Dove” is a symbol of:
- Peace (Ge 8:11): Noah, the dove, and olive branch
- Purity (Mt 10:16): Jesus instructed His disciples to be as
- harmless as doves.
- Passion (Eze 7:16): The cooing of the dove is used in the
- Scripture to signify suffering, mourning, and passion.
- Power (Ac 1:8; Lk 24:49): The outpouring of the Holy Spirit was
- accompanied with power (Olford, 220-22).
