Having known Kent (via email) for over a year now, we wanted to share his blog with our subscribers. His blog, www.churchrelevance.com, is one that attracts thousands of viewers and covers topics from church leadership to marketing, research to technology.
We’ve enjoyed following his posts and wanted to learn more about him. In addition to his blog, he is also a Digital Missions Volunteer at LifeChurch.tv and runs a commercial real estate listings website, AcreScout.
Here’s some interesting insights we got into the life of Kent through a brief Q and A.
1. Tell us three interesting things about you, that your blog subscribers may not even know.
- I spent four years in Peru as a missionary’s kid.
- I have been in children’s ministry for over 10 years.
- I am a book collector, but I collect much faster than I can read or build new shelves.
2. When and why did you start blogging?
I started ChurchRelevance.com because I saw a need for a practical resource that holistically explores how to create more effective and efficient ministries.
3. With a blog that covers leadership, marketing, research, technology, etc., what are you most passionate about?
I am passionate about churches understanding all of the little details that add up and determine whether or not a church is successful and to what degree.
4. What is your biggest pet peeve when visiting a website (or church website)?
I extremely dislike bad aesthetics. For many Web users, it takes less than a second to decide if they want to stay on a website or leave. Great aesthetics attract users. Great content keeps users coming back.
5. What do you deem as the most vital part of a church’s website?
Ultimately, relevant content is the most important part for sustainable success. Great aesthetics with poor content is a superficial fleeting success. Great content with poor aesthetics is sustainable yet diluted success.
We highly encourage church leadership to follow Kent’s blog, as well as his twitter, @kentshaffer. You’ll be challenged and enlightened as his array of ministry and business experience and gifted writing have deemed him one of Outreach magazine’s “Top 20 Websites for Church Communicators”.
So get to it – you have some subscribing and following to do.
