Branding, Church Growth

Terrible Spaghetti = Free Logo

Hosting a “singles” Valentine’s Day party during my sophomore year in college, I had no idea what I was in for.   I had invited all of the college interns from our church over for a night with games and food, keeping our minds off our blaring singleness.

I was rushing around in my tiny kitchen, trying to wrestle up some dessert, when one of the interns I barely knew walked in with his plate.  As he slopped on his third serving of spaghetti, he nonchalantly muttered, “This spaghetti is terrible.”

I am certain that he had to sidestep my jaw on the floor as he squeezed past me.  I was so insulted.  Not only had he made a horribly rude comment about my cooking, he was taking from the interns that hadn’t arrived yet.  Furious, I looked over at my roommate and said “I feel sorry for the woman that has to feed him the rest of their life.”

Much later, I came to learn that he was being extremely sarcastic. He, in fact, did like the spaghetti…which is why he got three plates…

That first impression took nearly a year to get past. No kidding. From there on out, I stereotyped and assumed away, viewing many other actions as insensitive and uncaring.

Unfortunately, these first impressions are difficult to erase.  I’m sure you’ve heard the adage that it takes seven encounters with a person to change a first impression.  Often times we get one solid chance to engage a new visitor, whether online, via a print marketing piece, or through the Sunday morning experience.  This is exactly why faithHighway works so hard to build quality web and logo design.

We’ve partnered with the awesome guys at Collide Magazine to help rid the world of the “unfortunate-looking-logo”.  We’ll be giving away a free logo design and identity package to an organization that is voted to have the worst logo.

Here are all the details:

Fully Custom Logo Design:

  • 3 concepts, with 4 sets of revisions each

Identity Package:

  • 1000 business cards
  • 1000 letterhead
  • 1000 mailing envelopes
  • 1000 giving envelopes
  • Branded PowerPoint slides
  • Link buttons for website

To apply, visit http://www.collidemagazine.com/logo.

Oh, and I forgot to mention that the infamous intern’s first impression was eventually reconciled…as he is now my husband.
