Twitter shortcuts

Not too long ago, I wrote an article about Twitter shortcuts that got a lot of attention. So much so, if you Google “twitter shortcuts”, the article comes up at a respectable second place. In our weekly blog meeting, this was brought up. And I shamelessly proclaimed my editing genius until I realized people were hitting this post for real answers and not my witty nonsense. So, to make amends and repent for my pride, here now are some legitimate Twitter shortcuts. For the sake of this exercise, I will use faithHighway’s twitter name as an example of how it should be typed out.

  • To follow someone, type in FOLLOW followed by the username   FOLLOW faithhighway
  • To unfollow someone, type LEAVE followed by the username  LEAVE faithhighway
  • To mention someone in your tweet, type @username    @faithhighway
  • To direct message someone in your tweet and only them, type D username     d faithhighway
  • To find out more about someone type in WHOIS username     WHOIS faithhighway
  • By typing ON it will turn on your phone notifications if you have that set up
  • By typing OFF it will turn off your phone notifications if you have that set up
  • By typing STATS you can view your Twitter statistics

I could get into the other ones, but these should do you for now. Hope this rights my wrong!

So, if you use Twitter, you know that @username is a message any of your followers can read but is directed at someone. And if you type d username, that is a message sent to and seen only by the person you sent it to. But I want to propose some other symbols for communication.

-username  hey, you post too many tweets
+username hey, you don’t post enough tweets
Ousername hey, let’s eat, there’s nothing in my stomach
<username hey, you are great

OK. So which ones am I missing? Show me what you got!
