Link Love – Matthew Paul Turner

Named one of the Top 10 Tweeps by the MediaOutreach audience earlier this year, we wanted this week’s Link Love to feature Matthew Paul Turner (@jesusneedsnewpr). When we asked Matthew, author of JesusNeedsNewPR.com, if we could do a post about him, his response was refreshing. Filled with humility and gratitude, he said, “Thank you for featuring me. It’s truly an honor.”

Starting out as an author, Matthew’s writing has seeped well past the bookshelves and onto the blogosphere.  He has written ten books, many having been shaped by his interesting religious upbringing in the Fundamentalist church.  Despite a described reputation as an “irreverent commentator on culture and faith and the bizarre ways that the two intersect,” Matthew is actually a “deeply sincere” and “painfully thoughtful person”.

One of his latest books, Churched: One Kids Journey Toward God Despite a Holy Mess displays his sarcasm and humor as a means to get through life, whether for “healing” or “conquering fear.”   Following his Twitter and blog have been a true joy, as Matthew constantly makes light of life.  If you’re searching for a good read by an entertaining, Godly man you should definitely check out his blog.

We had the opportunity to ask him a couple questions about him and his blog.

When and why did you start blogging?

“I wish this was more exciting. But it’s really not. I started blogging in 2006 because it was what everybody else was doing. People said, “You’re an author?! Then you have to blog.” After thinking about it for a little while I decided that blogging was probably the only thing a Christian was allowed to do based only on the fact that everybody else was doing it, too. And everybody else was doing it for promotional & marketing purposes, and so that was why I was doing it, to–to promote me, the books that I write, etc. But at some point, I discovered that I enjoyed blogging. And further more, a good number of people seemed to enjoy what I blogged.”
