I recently bought the new Black Eyed Pea’s CD- The E.N.D. (Energy Never Dies) and was listened to the full CD before deciding on my few favorite songs. This one song called, “Now Generation,” caught my attention, and I replayed it a few times as I pondered how a “Now Generation,” can learn patience…especially in times of waiting on God. As technology advances, our society also advances in wanting things more immediately. If we have to wait…we don’t want it. We want answers NOW. We want to see change NOW. We want to know what we’re going to be doing next week NOW. We don’t like waiting. We don’t like patience…and really, there’s not much need for patience in a society where most everything is available at your fingertips.
However, in my short life’s experience, I have learned that God doesn’t work in the NOW, when I demand it. His timing is not usually my timing, although in the end, I can look back and see how his timing was always the best timing. In a world where we’re used to getting answers NOW, it sometimes makes it hard to wait for an answer or an open door from God. God is the same yesterday, today and forever. His character doesn’t change as our generations change.
How do you think technology and the “now syndrome” has affected or will affect spiritual growth in the future?
Would love to hear your thoughts…
