Have You Considered…Teenagers and Technology?

This is the third installment of the “Have You Considered” series of posts. Have you considered teenagers and technology?

One of the most often heard challenges among ministry teams is finding people to work on the audio/video aspects of ministry. Because teenagers practically live on the computer and on mobile devices, they are already extremely comfortable with technology gear. If you look around your church, you probably have a few teenagers who would love to be helping in a significant way. And technology is a great place to engage them.

The obvious warning is that you will need to train them on what you want and what you don’t want. Most churches have the audio, video, projection, and lighting aspects that need attention in every service. And if you get your teenagers involved, schedule a time for training (and do I even need to mention you will have to buy a couple of boxes of pizza), and walk them through how everything works. Then, clearly lay out what you would like to see each week. Is there something you don’t know how to do? Ask them to research it for you.

Keep in mind that these same teenagers will be the leaders in our churches in the not so distant future. Why not help them learn how to lead now?
