On Tuesday, Twitter unveiled its initial plan to sell advertising on the popular micro blogging website.
While the Twitter creators needed to do something to generate profits, I’m not so sure fellow tweeters will be excited to see advertising mixed in with the normal tweets.
From what I understand from the plan for “Promoted Tweets” is that advertisers will be able to purchase key words, which will allow their advertisement to show up at the top of a list when a user searches that specific key word. So, typically, I don’t think you’ll get a ton of advertisement, unless you search for something, like, “coffee” and Starbucks ads pull in. As the keywords are purchased, expect more advertisements.
How do I feel about this? Well, I feel the same about Twitter advertisements as I do about Facebook advertisements. I have learned to ignore them and not pay attention to them. I think the same will happen with Twitter, except it will be easier to ignore, because you can just skim down the timeline and read the tweets you want.
I’ll be interested in seeing how accepted advertising is with Twitter.
Anyone else have any thoughts?
