This e-book is a short and easy read (6 pages) that tells of one pastor’s experience in visiting a new church. I thought it had some very relevant information that would be useful to think about, if you’re a pastor or ministry leader.
Here are 3 things that stood out to me:
1. People want to know what they are getting themselves into. Most likely they’ll find your church’s website before stepping foot into the door. Statements of Faith, Pictures of the Pastor and links to ministries are important, but make sure you provide the basics on your site as well:
a. Service times
b. Directions- map, address, phone number
c. Dress code- Be specific. “Come as you are,” is too vague.
d. Length of Service- let a visitor know when they can expect to be finished.
2. Some visitors will arrive early to get a feel of their surroundings. Be prepared!
a. Have greeters arrive early to meet and welcome those early birds.
b. Have clearly marked signs to guide Mr. Visitor where he needs to go.
3. Follow up!!!
a. Give visitors something for them to fill out, but don’t be threatening.
b. Send an email or postcard as a simple way to make them feel appreciated and welcomed.
