First Impressions: Site fails to measure up across the board.

First Impressions is facilitated through Guest Reflections. People are asked to pick a website from a church in their area at random and review it. These sites may or may not be powered by faithHighway.

Final Grade: gradeF Site fails for out dated graphics, boring content, poor functionality and incomplete navigation.

titleNavigation “I didn’t feel like there was a lot to the website. It didn’t say a lot about the church. I also didn’t like that they didn’t provide any information about the preschool. There were no directions to the church, only the address and the option to use an external map website. I would have liked to know a little bit more about the staff members.” gradeF

titleContent“It was kind of boring and there was nothing that stood out. I didn’t like that it was so simple and they didn’t describe a lot about who they were and what they believed.” gradeDminus
titleGraphics“The visual flavor was out dated and nothing seemed to pop. There was nothing that stood out, it just looked very simple.” gradeF

What is your overall first impression of this site?

“When I clicked on the website link my first impression was that it looked out dated. The pictures on the front looked like they had been there a while and I didn’t recognize where this church might be. I also noticed that they had the times of the services, but they were extremely small. I liked that on the right hand side there was a list of upcoming activities. That was helpful.”

What would make this site better?

“To describe their beliefs more, what their worship services are about and who the staff members are. I would also like more information on the preschool they offer.”

Would you visit this church based on the site?

“No.”

faithHighway Tips for improvement…
…from a design expert:

“There are very few pictures on the site. Images that illustrate who your organization is help people relate and feel a connection before they ever make their first visit. What images they do have look very dated because they are not properly anti-aliased.”

…from a programming expert:

“A number of things could be changed on this site:

  1. Home link is in the middle of the menu.  This is not where most users will look for the Home link.
  2. Some of the map links are broken.
  3. Many of the pages are different sizes, or display differently.”

Maybe the fact that it was built using yahoo site builder doesn't help?
