Good Monday to you, loyal readers! I am having webcam issues this morning, namely audio issues, so I decided to scrap the video for the day and write to you!
Unless you live under a rock, you’ve heard the term “Social Media” thrown around lately. Typically, you hear it hinged to the words Facebook, Twitter or YouTube, but it’s there regardless. As I’ve had the opportunity to meet with church leaders, ministry leaders and organizations over the past few months, they all seem to have one common question- what is Social Media and how should I use it?
Today, I’ll help you define what Social Media really is. As of June 14th, 2010, it means one thing. As the internet evolves and becomes more social, this may not apply, say 6 months from now. However, today, Social Media is any type of content that is characterized by a few basic attributes:
- Collaboration- people can comment and add their 2 cents.
- Conversation- it’s not talking “at” your audience, it’s talking “with” your audience.
- Relationships- Social Media builds affinity.
- Multi-dimensional- It’s all about layers of connection, not just the back and forth.
- Community- The whole is greater than the sum of the parts.
What is Social Media to you? Do you have a better definition than ours? Or do you need help determining your strategy as you embark through the waters of Social Media? Call faithHighway, we can help!
