- Be specific- tell the author what you like/didn’t like about the post. General comments like, “nice post,” are encouraging, but it’s more conversational to leave more detail about what stood out to you.
- Use correct grammar and punctuation.
- Always read the entire article before leaving a comment.
- Don’t act like a know-it-all- try to encourage a conversation as opposed to giving a lecture.
- Be respectful- don’t always leave negative remarks.
- Don’t correct an author’s grammar in a post. Everyone makes mistakes and when you only leave corrections, it’s just rude and tells the author you didn’t care about the content.
- Don’t comment if you don’t know what you’re talking about…unless you have questions, of course. Don’t just comment to comment.
- Keep your comment short. If you have several points you want to make, then write several different comments. Good rule: one point per comment.
- If you’ve written a post that goes along with the author’s post, then leave a hyperlink
- Be thoughtful- leave a comment that shows you “hear” what the author is saying, as well as provide other points of view.
