I’m pretty pessimistic when it comes to social media. While I use it daily and it’s a part of my life, I tend to think about all the negative aspects of it and not so much the good things that come of it.
I decided to see what I could find in ways of using social media for the good. Here’s what I found:
- $25K raised for a small charity through a social media experiment. Read about it here.
- Online donations increased 790% for Lupus Foundation of America through their Facebook campaign.
- A non-profit that runs an orphanage in Haiti (Free the Kids) was running out of food. They tweeted about it, but didn’t have a strategy in mind…someone else retweeted and it turned into a success.
- A woman in need posted her needs on a social blog and the Salvation Army answered
- Facebook Prayer- Have you ever done that?
- A website dedicated to true stories of how God is working in people’s lives.
I know I’m just barely touching on the tip of the iceberg. If you have a story you want to share on how social media has been used for the good of others…please share it. I’d love to hear.
On a side note…faithHighway has a new website feature, Prayer and share wall, that you can incorporate into your website to allow people to post prayer requests, pray for each other or connect with a pastor. Contact faithHighway for more information.
