Small Groups for Church Planters Continued

Small Groups for Church Planters Continued

Think Small.  Think Short.  Think less.  Think Individual.   Again, I don’t think that there is an accurate how to model that fits every church but these theme seem to keep rising. Think Short. Every small group ministry I talked to is running on a semester system: Fall, Winter/Spring and usually a short Summer.  I know [...]

Small Group for Church Plants

Small Group for Church Plants

Thinking small is definitely the way to go in today’s church.  The question is how do we, in the process of thinking small, not think small and have our small group ministry have large participation.  That was a mouth full … whew.  One of the last assignments in the church plant internship I am completing [...]

Time Management: The Law of Priority

Time Management: The Law of Priority

Ok, so we’ve talked about (in the two previous articles) the difference between what is urgent and what is important and how to help to make those things happen.  We have also talked about multitasking, focus and how to make an effective to do list.  Really all of this stuff comes out of the same [...]

Time Management: Multi-tasking, To-do’s, and Focus

Time Management: Multi-tasking, To-do’s, and Focus

If you are anything like me, I may be talking on the phone, receiving and responding to texts and emails, getting an IM, putting one person on hold to let the other important person know that you need 15 more minutes before you can meet and all with 15 uncompleted projects in opened windows on [...]

Time Management: Urgent vs. Important

Time Management: Urgent vs. Important

I just need a little more time in the day.  I wish I could count the number of times that I have said this in the last several months … probably years.  The great poet, Alfred Lord Tennyson, said that time was, “a maniac, scattering dust.” It has been called “all-devouring, all-destroying” and “the wreckful [...]

Good Church Planting Stats

Good Church Planting Stats

I alluded to this week’s entry, last week, so I thought I would do a little extra research on the subject of statistics.  In my heart, I love statistics and compiled information; I love to just chew it up and look for the next morsel of delicious compacted processed analysis to devour. I found a [...]

Exploring Your City

Exploring Your City

We just got back from Ohio. I remember when we had our first trip to the Cleveland, Ohio area, we were thinking that we would immediately know the section of town that we would be planting in. Then, when we got there, we found out that there were 76 suburbs that would be considered the “Cleveland Ohio Area”. I remember thinking: “You gotta be kidding me: 76 suburbs.” So, we began our search for where to plant. We visited and found 6 cities that we thought might be compatible with what we are called to. We came home and prayed about where and then made plans to go back again 4 months later.

Church Plant Internships (Part II)

There is one last thing that I want to say about doing an internship before you plant your church (part I is found  here).  When I started to leak to people what we would be doing we got a couple of reactions. Reaction 1 The first kind of reaction was: “Yeah, I did an internship [...]

Church Plant Internships

The church planting organization that we are with (www.arcchurches.com) holds assessments in which you are either approved or not approved based on their proven criteria.  They are not trying to say whether or not you are called into the ministry, they are deciding if they think you would fit into and work well in their [...]

Talking with a Church Planter

I was talking to a friend of mine, Pastor Stacy Turney, late last week about his recent church plant launch.  Pastor Stacy is the planting pastor of Church at the Crossing in Dothan, AL.  I asked him to give me a couple pointers from one church planter to another, and he gave me three (he’s [...]
